Brief History

Anyang University's history
starts in 1948

Over the years, we have transformed ourselves into a renowned capital region comprehensive university. Currently, we have 2 campus, 6 colleges with 30 academic departments, and 4 graduate schools for our over 6,000 students.

Our main campus is located just outside of Seoul in the city of Anyang on the foothills of Suri Mountain. Our second campus is located on the historical island of Ganghwa where Dangun, the mythical founder of the Korean peoples, offered sacrifices to his ancestors on top of Mani Mountain.

The school began its existence as Dae Han Theological Seminary and College, founded by Dr. Chi Sun Kim of the Namdaemun Presbyterian Church in 1948. The original campus was on the foot of South Mountain in Seoul. The campus moved temporarily to Busan after the outbreak of the Korean War and moved back to Seoul in 1956. In 1962, the campus relocated again and then finally found its current home in 1980.

In 1985, on the foothills of Suri Mountain, Youngsil Kim, Ph.D., opened a new era of "light" for our university as he entered office as president with his educational philosophy of Brightening One Corner.

The current name of Anyang University was adopted in March 1995 as we began full-fledged comprehensive university operations. In 2002, Seung Tae Kim, Ph.D. entered office as president and has taken the university to a new level of success as a leader of higher education in the capital region fostering Beautiful Leaders.
